Milan is considered the Italian architecture and design capital. Not only because every year it hosts the largest international event dedicated to this art, the “Salone Del Mobile”, but also because here you can tangibly feel that the design and architecture in Milan are fundamental and characterize its image.
Franco Albini was a great and innovative Italian architect and designer who helped to give away to Milan. He was one of the leading exponents of Italian Rationalism (Italian architectural movement of the twenties and thirties and who would later greatly influenced the architecture of the seventies) and his works are recognizable around Milan. He was also an innovative interior designer and his style would have had its peak in the forties. To disclose and to remember his work and a foundation was founded in Milan that bears his name. Since 2013, the Fondazione Franco Albini is open to the public through guided tours and it is thus possible to embark on a path of knowledge and well illustrated in his work.
Born in the original home studio of Franco Albini and Franca Helg in via Telesio 13, the Foundation hosts drawings and the original documentation regarding projects from 1935 to 1977. Pieces of unique design, vintage photos, interviews and 3D reproductions to learn about the creative process and the method of work of this great architect. Among these radio crystal (presented at “Wohnbedarf” competition in 1940, exhibited at the Museum of Design in Milan Triennale), the Orion TV Brionvega (1961-62), the chair Luisa (Compasso d’Oro Award 1955). In addition 6,000 photographs, 20,000 drawings, and then writings, technical reports and rare books and architectural magazines. Inside there is also the Virtual Museum, which explains seven Albini’s unfinished projects which, however, thanks to the support of fans and members of the foundation, were brought to completion.

It’s a website which aims to divulge the Franco Albini’s and other architects’ productions which by their art of exposing made Milan very important in the Thirties nowadays.
